Close to a month after Hela and Raynor's attack on Asgard, Aela Laufeydottir attacked the palace following her mother's death. Seeking to get revenge on the royal family for her mother's banishment to Jotunheim during the war against Jotunheim, she used what little magic that she knew and attacked the guards outside of the palace in order to gain entrance inside, and then made her way towards the throne room. Loki, who was aware of her attack, met her halfway, and attempted to speak with her in order to find out who she was and what her motive behind the attack was. He found out enough, and, suspicious of her origins, tricked her and was able to render her unconscious so that she could be placed in a cell and interrogated further.
Once Aela gained consciousness again, Loki began his questioning of her, and while she was difficult at first, he eventually got her to state who her parents were, and confirmed his own suspicions that she was, in fact, his sister. Further conversation provided him with the knowledge that Loki and Aela's mother had only abandoned Loki on Jotunheim during the midst of the battle because she'd been smuggling her children to Asgard, and was only able to carry one child back at a time. She took Aela first, and when she returned for Loki, found him missing and assumed him dead. Equally thrilled and horrified by the knowledge that he had a twin sister, Loki left the prisons after stating he couldn't free her due to legal obligations, given as she'd killed several guards on her way in. Later, however, he provided her with a few items in her cell to keep her somewhat comfortable, with plans to return again later, once he was able to handle the new information given to him.
